Having spent 33 years in careers characterized by high stakes, perpetual readiness, on-call nearly everyday of the year and stretches away from family, it was time to embrace a well-earned break.
As a contracted Instructor, Instructional Designer and Auditor with the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Office of Antiterrorism Assistance (DS/T/ATA), I played a role in instructing and auditing the DS/T/ATA curriculum and assistance programs for foreign partners. I contributed to the development of their capabilities in anti-terrorism planning, coordination, and commitment to supporting U.S. counterterrorism objectives. Through classroom instruction, presentations, and exercises conducted in both developing countries and U.S. training sites, I facilitated cooperative efforts between U.S. law enforcement and international counterparts, aiming to prevent future terrorist attacks and manage their consequences.
During my career from 1998 to 2008, I was a key member of the In-Service Training Staff, where I played a vital role in developing and implementing online training programs. I took the initiative to establish a video production studio, where I was responsible for creating and editing all video, audio, graphics, and digital peripherals required for internally developed training. Additionally, I managed the revision and implementation of the High-Risk Warrant Service School, which became the department’s most sought-after elective course. I also contributed to the development and rollout of the department’s recurring mass violence response course.
During my time on active duty I served as a platoon leader and company executive officer in the Republic of South Korea with 6 months spent at the Demilitarized Zone. I ten served as a company executive officer then assistant brigade operations officer in the training brigade at Fort McClellan Alabama.
